This variety of Veronica
was introduced in 1946 by Robert Bennerup, founder of Sunny Border
Nurseries and remains to be one of the most popular perennials on
the market today. Sunny Border Blue was named Perennial Plant of
the Year in 1993, a well deserved award. Plants are remarkably
easy to grow and bloom nearly all summer. Glowing purple -blue
flower spikes dart out of dark green, crinkled foliage to create
a real showcase of color in the garden. Sunny Border Blue
is by far our most popular variety of Veronica.
Veronica 'Sunny Border Blue'
Plants are tolerant of a wide range of soil types
as long as they drain well, however for best results amend your
soil with compost before planting. Veronica plants will grow
in partial shade but will bloom much better if given a spot in full
bright sun. Feed in early spring with composted manure and then
twice again during the summer with fish emulsion. Cut back faded
flower stems to promote additional flowering.
