Pure white triangular shaped
blooms with sulfur yellow stamens. Blooms for up to 8 weeks from late May through
most of July. Snowcap has a more compact growth habit than some of the other
spiderworts. Plants from dense, spreading clumps of erect narrow strap like leaves. A very
nice selection for adding color to less than ideal sun light situations in the garden.
Plants can be sheared completely down after they have finished flowering and will
return in fall for another round of flowering.
Spiderworts will grow in full sun or shade. If planted in full sun make
sure the soil stays consistently moist and mulch plants to keep the roots cool.
Plants bloom better if given some afternoon shade. Soil needs to be very rich in organic
matter and should be heavily amended with composted manure and peat moss. Feed in
early spring with a top dressing of compost and bone meal. Liquid feed once or twice
in the summer with fish emulsion.
