Easy to grow shrub roses will change
your opinion on growing rose bushes. We hear over and over from
other gardeners how disappointed they are with the results of their
roses. We will admit that growing roses successfully can be a challenge
and that many of the modern hybrids demand to much attention. Shrub
roses on the other hand are almost fool proof and are very low mantainence.
The Meidiland Series (pronounced may-de' land) that we grow here
at Gorge Top Gardens are extremely easy to grow and where one of
the first shrub roses we experimented with. The results where amazing.
The plants exceeded our expectations and from that point on we where
hooked. The famous rose breeders "Meilland
of France" spent years developing this easy to grow line
of roses with an intense focus on low maintenance and hardiness.
Their efforts have rewarded gardeners with a landscape plant that
is nearly perfect! These rose bushes are vigorous, disease resistant,
fast growing and will tolerate growing conditions other roses would
never survive.
Just as our love affair began with the Meidiland plants we where
introduced to a new line of shrub roses.... The
Knockouts. This very popular line of shrub roses quickly captured
the attention of gardeners and landscapers who had sworn off rose
bushes for good. Knockouts are incredibly easy to grow
and maintain making them perfect for the busy gardener. Plants
bloom profusely covering themselves with colorful flowers from late
spring all the way into fall.

Notes: while shrub roses are considered to be very
low maintenance they will bloom much heavier if you feed them at
least three times per year with bone meal and liquid feed with fish
emulsion once per month during the growing season.
