A hybrid seedling introduced to the US from Germany in 1991, Matrona is
considered to be one the best Sedums introduced in years. The name Matrona comes
from a German word 'matrone' - which means "lady of well rounded form'. The name
alludes to the robust nature of this fine Sedum. It is a very sturdy, upright grower
with grey-purple, succulent leaves and pinkish-purple stems. The foliage alone is
outstanding but to top it off Matrona sports large, beautiful mauve-pink blooms in
late summer that continue to open up through out most of autumn. This is in our
opinion a must have perennial - very nice indeed.
Sedum 'Matrona'
Plant in full sun and provide an average well drained soil. Fertilize in
early spring with a combination of blood and bone meal. Liquid feed once in the
summer with fish emulsion or seaweed extract. Be careful not to mulch to deeply
around the stems as it can result in rot.
