This is probably the most popular variety of
Pulmonaria - a long time favorite among perennial gardeners. Mrs. Moon has 12 inch
long leaves that are dotted with silvery gray splotches. In very early spring plants send
up graceful clusters of rose-pink buds that soon open to reveal deep blue flowers.
Plants form attractive clumps that are perfect for planting under shrubs or mixed
with Hostas and other shade loving plants. The exquisite foliage remains beautiful
all season.
Pulmonaria 'Mrs. Moon'
Plants do best in partial shade. Leaf colors are more intense if
planted in an area that receives about 2 hours of morning sun. Plants should be
grown in humus rich, moisture retentive soil that has been heavily amended with composted
manure and peat moss. Plants do not like dry soils - make sure to water during
extended dry spells. To keep the plants looking lush and healthy divide clumps every
3 - 5 years. Feed in early spring as soon as flowering has stopped with a top
dressing of composted manure and bone meal - feed twice during the summer with compost tea
or fish emulsion.
