This is one of our favorite Peonies. In our humble opinion this is one of
the best double flowering Peonies on the market. It stands up to heat very well making it
ideal for southern gardeners. The gorgeous, fully double flowers are a bright
watermelon pink and smell heavenly. Kansas has been around a while, it was first
introduced in the 1950's and won the American Peony Society's Gold Medal Award in 1959.
Many new pink Peonies have been introduced since then but few can compare to this
classic perennial.
Peony 'Kansas'
Plant in full sun and provide a rich well drained soil. Feed lightly
in early spring with a top dressing of compost and bone meal - over feeding can cause the
plants not to bloom. When planting Peony roots place the eyes 1 1/2 - 2 inches below
the soil level. Planting the roots to deeply can cause Peonies not to produce flowers.
Water new plants frequently to help them get off to strong start - more often than
not Peonies will not flower the first year - they will spend the first season establishing
themselves.
