Marshal's
Delight is very popular true pink form of Monarda. The plants are
extremely free flowering and perhaps the most colorful of all Monardas
we grow. We have tried other pink Bee Balms in the past - only to
be disappointed - We fell in love with this one. A real improvement
over all other pinks we have ever grown. Marshal's Delight is also
the longest flowering variety we grow. It starts to show color in
late June and continues to bloom into the middle of September. Plants
are very vigorous and show very good resistance to powdery mildew.
Plant in full sun and provide a rich well drained soil.
Plants can be grown in partial shade but will cause flowering to
decline. Fertilize in early spring with a top dressing of composted
manure and bone meal. Liquid feed once in the summer with
fish emulsion or a compost tea. Provide plants with extra water
during prolonged dry spells, dry soils promotes powdery mildew,
a fungal problem common in Monardas. Deadheading will promote
longer flowering. Plants spread rapidly by underground stems
and need to be divided every three years to keep them looking their
best.
