Hostas prefer partial to full shade and a good rich garden soil that is moist but well drained. Moisture plays a crucial role in growing beautiful Hosta plants - you will need to water plants during prolonged dry spells. Feed in very early spring with a top dressing of composted manure and bone meal. Liquid feed at least twice during the growing season with seaweed extract or fish emulsion. A gigantic, very impressive Hosta with
huge, thick, glossy leaves. Sum and Substance is so big that it looks like someting you
would see growing in a jungle. Leaf color will vary depending upon sun exposure from light
green to a heavenly shade of chartreuse gold. Sum and Substance is considered to be
very sun tolerant, but as you can imagine this enormous Hosta will need plenty of water to
keep its mamoth leaves from burning. The plants have a wide range of usefulness in the
garden, perfect for specimens, backdrops or as potted plants as seen above. Don't
expect plants to explode to the size pictured above in one season, Sum and Substance has a
medium to fast growth rate and under the ideal growing conditions will reach mature size
in about three years. Very popular among our customers for the past two years.
