This beloved Hosta reigned as
number one on the American Hosta Growers Society popularity poll form many many years.
Frances Williams is probably the most beloved Hosta of all times and with very good
reason. The giant blue-green leaves almost look quilted they are so heavily corrugated.
Margins are very wide and consist of a heavenly combination of chartreuse and shades of
yellow. The foliage of Frances Williams is very tough, sometimes described as
leathery, which makes it very slug resistant. Many gardening resources list Frances
Williams as being sun tolerant - while this is true with adequate water we do not
recommend it for full sun. The water requirements for a Hosta of this size will keep
you constantly dragging out the water hose. For beautiful Frances Williams Hostas
locate the plants out of direct evening sun.

Hostas prefer partial to full
shade and a good rich garden soil that is moist but well drained. Moisture plays a crucial
role in growing beautiful Hosta plants - you will need to water plants during prolonged
dry spells. Feed in very early spring with a top dressing of composted manure and bone
meal. Liquid feed at least twice during the growing season with seaweed extract or
fish emulsion. For more growing instructions see our Hosta
care guide. |
